The Service

A full window service comprises:

• Removal of all existing staff and parting beads
• Removal of both sashes
• Checking and replacement of loose or missing putty
• Preparing the box frame by scraping and sanding paint ingress
• Planing of the sashes to ensure smooth operation
• Checking the pulleys for perfect operation
• Checking the weights for correctness and rebalancing as necessary
• Fitting four new waxed sash chords
• Re-hanging sashes to ensure smooth operation
• Fitting new parting and staff beads
• Refitting of the window catch, lift, etc, replacing as necessary
• Priming any bare wood
• Testing for smooth operation prior to departure

Other services include the installation of our Draft Proof System. With the System in place, draughty sash windows are a thing of the past! A brush pile carrier is routed into both parting and staff beads; once installed, this beading not only reduces draughts by up to 85%, but it also stops the irritating rattles so commonly experienced and reduces external noise transmission.

Indeed, our draught proofing and overhaul service is designed to bring new life to any sash window. It will dramatically improve window performance more economically than the cost of replacement. Our experience suggests that, in the majority of cases, we can carry out repairs, using the finest quality materials, without the need for a complete replacement – whether cutting-out rotten wood and filling with special epoxy resin, or replacing timbers to box, or sill, with new material. If, however, the existing window is deemed unviable, new sashes and box frames can be professionally fashioned as required.
